Café Ironique

A couple sits on Thursday at the Café Ironique
“I don’t need you!” he lies, but quite sincerely
She started writing tender lyrics down upon the paper napkin
“I hate you, too” she wrote, a love song, clearly
You’re welcome if you come down to the Café Ironique
It’s at the corner of Loser Street and the Boulevard of Dreams
Where everyone who lies means every word they speak
And only the impossible is exactly what it seems
At the Café, the Café Ironique
They spike the virgin margaritas, that’s a sobering thought
Nothing is for certain here and that’s without a doubt
The virgins don’t complain until virgins they are not,
Everybody loses what they came in here without
Won’t you come and see me I’ll be playing there next week
Cause they don’t allow live music at the Café Ironique
I’ll play the same song over and over and over and over
Until it sounds unique
Nicole at the bar will take you places with her eyes
She plays the fragile beauty which is a fabulous disguise
Jesse brings elixirs you can toast to joy and health
But you get the sense he drops them off on the way to somewhere else
Michael is a fixture he stands guard by the door
Til you don’t know if he is coming or he’s going anymore
A pretty girl sings to some other man sweet and tender things
I love the song cause she is beautiful, who cares if she can’t sing
And me I ride the corner, adding drinks onto my check
Just the picture of the loner, which I am anything except
You’re welcome if you come down to the Café Ironique
It’s at the corner of Loser Street and the Boulevard of Dreams
Where everybody lies and means every word they speak
And only the impossible is exactly what it seems
At the Café, the Café Ironique
